Miami Wins Its 20th in a Row, Coasting Past Florida A&M;, 38-0
Even with Gino Torretta and Kevin Williams sidelined before halftime Saturday, top-ranked Miami had no trouble with Florida A&M; in a 38-0 victory.
Torretta was hit while completing a pass late in the first half and suffered a strained left shoulder. He sat out the rest of the game but could have returned if needed, a team trainer said.
Williams, Miami’s receiver and kick returner, traded punches with Florida A&M; tight end George Terrell on a second-quarter kickoff, and both were ejected.
Miami (2-0) increased the nation’s longest winning streak to 20 games. Division I-AA Florida A&M; slipped to 2-1.
Miami allowed the Rattlers only 92 yards of offense.
Torretta completed 12 of 22 passes for 170 yards, including touchdowns of 10 and five yards to Lamar Thomas. No. 2 quarterback Frank Costa hit eight of 16 passes for 95 yards, and Ryan Collins threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Kirkeide.
Stephen McGuire, Miami’s leading rusher the past two seasons, carried 13 times for 40 yards in his first game since undergoing knee surgery last November.
