Ruelas Is Close to Deal to Fight Nelson for Title
Junior-lightweight Gabriel Ruelas of Arleta is close to being signed for a championship match with Azumah Nelson on Nov. 7.
Ruelas (32-1), 20, who boxes Gilberto Flores tonight at the Country Club, Reseda, would challenge for Nelson’s WOrld Boxing Council junior-lightweight title.
Nelson (35-2-1), 34, has successfully defended his title six times, most notably last February in Melbourne with an eighth-round knockout of Australian challenger Jeff Fenech, with whom he had fought to a disputed draw 15 months ago.

A spokesman for Don King, Nelson’s promoter, said the Nelson-Ruelas fight would probably be held at Caesars Tahoe.
