CORONADO : Police Say Report of Kidnaping False

Share

Coronado police said Wednesday they believe a report of an attempted kidnaping of a 10-year-old boy is false.

During police questioning, two boys, ages 10 and 11, admitted they made up a story about a man dressed in black clothing who supposedly tried to pull one of them into a truck, said John DeAngelis, division commander for police investigations.

Two investigators worked all day Wednesday to determine the boys’ report to be false by several means: one child’s mother explained that her son had always called her when in trouble, but didn’t do so in this case; the description of the alleged abductor; the time it took for the children to notify police, and the unlikely probability that one of the boys was able to knock the alleged abductor to the ground, DeAngelis said.

Police, however, say parents should continue to be on guard after several kidnaping attempts in September in San Diego and in North County.

DeAngelis said the two boys had probably been watching television stories about recent kidnaping attempts at McKinley, Skyline and Tierrasanta elementary schools and Bernardo Heights Middle School.
