PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Vince Evans Is Back on the Roster

Share

Thin on the kick-return squad, and bruised and battered on the offensive line, the Raiders made a personnel move.

They re-signed Vince Evans.

Evans, 37, the third-string quarterback, returned to the roster after receiver/kick returner Sam Graddy, suffering from a broken arm, was placed on the injured-reserve list.

Asked why the Raiders would not opt for someone who could help return kicks, Coach Art Shell said, “This is the decision we made.”

Evans, a 13-year veteran, has been bounced off the squad several times in recent seasons, only to bounce back when the Raiders could find a roster spot for him.

Shell has said all along he wanted to go with three quarterbacks. Graddy, who had 10 catches for 205 yards and a touchdown, was hurt in the second half of last Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

With Graddy out, the Raiders will use Napoleon McCallum and possibly Dan Land on kickoff returns.

Receiver/punt returner Tim Brown, who missed the Kansas City game because of a pulled hamstring, will be back for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. . . Running back Marcus Allen missed practice because of a sprained ankle but hopes to be back on the field today. . . Offensive tackle Steve Wright, who left Monday night’s game because of a partially dislocated left shoulder, is “probable.”
