MOORPARK : McDonald’s Ruling Is Expected Today

Share

The Moorpark Planning Commission will decide whether to allow the city to have its very own McDonald’s today when it hears a request by the fast-food giant to build a restaurant at Los Angeles Avenue and Spring Road.

Commissioners first considered the application Sept. 21, but continued the public hearing to study the traffic impact of the proposal and to consult with the state Department of Transportation, said Commission Chairman Michael Wesner.

The specific concern was whether the state would allow a left-turn lane in front of the restaurant to be used by eastbound traffic on Los Angeles Avenue.

Los Angeles Avenue is a state highway and any local development would have to comply with state regulations.

The proposed 3,597-square-foot restaurant would offer drive-through service and a playground with outside seating.

Wesner said the commission will make a decision today.

“There will be action,” he said.

In the case of an approval, the commission would have the final word.

If the application is denied, McDonald’s could appeal to the City Council.

The restaurant, which some officials have said would signal that Moorpark has “arrived” as a city, would bring in an estimated $100,000 in annual sales tax revenues and create about 50 full- and part-time jobs.
