Garcia Kickoff Return Sparks Anaheim

Running back Che Garcia scored two touchdowns, one on a 99-yard kickoff return to open the second half, as Anaheim defeated Buena Park, 31-14, Thursday in nonleague football at Glover Stadium.

Garcia carried 12 times for 59 yards and scored the game’s first touchdown with 9 minutes 23 seconds left in the first quarter.

The touchdown was set up when Anaheim’s Jake Walker intercepted a pass by Buena Park quarterback Alan Buckley and returned it 20 yards to the Buena Park 24. Two plays later, Garcia scored from the 18.

Garcia’s kickoff return gave Anaheim (4-1) the lead for good, 17-14. Quarterback Phil Covarrubias made it 24-14 with a five-yard touchdown pass to Justin Beltran.

Anaheim scored again in the fourth quarter on a three-yard run by Brian Diaz, the game’s leading rusher with 130 yards in 27 carries.

Buena Park (0-5) took a 14-10 lead at halftime on two touchdowns by George McDonald, one on a 40-yard run and the other on a 97-yard kickoff return.
