Garth Rules--For Now

Share

Once again Garth Brooks’ “The Chase” outsold the competition by a country mile, with Peter Gabriel’s “Us” a distant but surprising second on the Southern California charts in its first week of release.

Michael Bolton’s “Timeless,” which entered at No. 5, should get stronger in coming weeks and challenge “The Chase.” The top hard rock album is Alice in Chains’ new “Dirt,” which has also made a splash at No. 4 on the pop chart.

The Times’ exclusive Southern California charts are prepared from information supplied by SoundScan Inc., the music industry’s leading sales-reporting service.
