New York Giant quarterback Phil Simms was put on injured reserve, two days after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow. Coach Ray Handley said he expects Simms to play this season.
Handley filled the third quarterback spot by activating Kent Graham from injured reserve. The Giants’ eighth-round draft choice has some nerve damage in his right elbow, which still causes some numbness in his hand. Jeff Hostetler remains the No. 1 quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Rams, but Handley is not sure whether Graham or fellow rookie Dave Brown will be the backup.
