Share

Authorities are searching for a motorist who sped off after causing an early morning accident Friday that injured three people and tied up rush-hour traffic for more than an hour.

Luther Ralph Beers, 48, of Oxnard, was the most seriously injured in the 6:10 a.m. collision at Victoria Avenue and Olivas Park Drive, officials said. Beers, who suffered a broken arm and leg, was treated at St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and released Friday afternoon, a nursing supervisor said.

Two other drivers, Mary Pat Huxley, 42, of Ventura, and Roberta Jean Vigil, 39, of Oxnard, suffered minor injuries, said Staci Morse, spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred when an unidentified motorist driving north on Victoria ran a red light while making a left turn onto westbound Olivas Park, Morse said. The driver cut off Huxley, who was southbound, prompting her to swerve into the northbound lanes of Victoria and collide with Vigil, Morse said.

Beers, driving a motorcycle in the No. 2 northbound lane, managed to avoid the spinning vehicles, but slid on his bike when he hit oil on the roadway, Morse said. The collision slowed rush-hour traffic for about 90 minutes before the scene was cleared, she said.
