BIG WEST ROUNDUP : Turner Sets NCAA Record in Pacific’s 49-17 Win

Aaron Turner caught three touchdown passes, setting an NCAA record in the process, as Pacific defeated New Mexico State, 49-17, in a Big West Conference game.

Turner’s 39 touchdown receptions broke the record of 38 set by Clarkston Hines of Duke in 1989.

Turner caught touchdown passes from Dave Henigan on plays of 56, 30 and 69 yards as the Tigers, 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the Big West, built a 28-10 halftime lead.

Henigan threw for four touchdown passes and Ryan Benjamin gained a career-high 210 yards in 23 carries with three touchdowns.

New Mexico State (4-3, 2-1) pulled to within 35-17 in the third quarter when Charles Puleri threw a 12-yard scoring pass to Todd Cutler. But Henigan answered with his fourth scoring pass, a six-yarder to Kale Wedemeyer.

Nevada 14, Nevada Las Vegas 10--Cornerback Brock Marion, who set up the game-winning touchdown by forcing a fumble, intercepted a pass at his 22-yard line with 1:28 left to preserve the victory at Las Vegas.

Trailing, 7-0, at halftime, Nevada (4-2, 3-0) tied the score on the first possession of the second half when Dedric Holmes ran five yards for a touchdown. Linebacker William Lackey took a fumble two yards for the winning touchdown with 3:12 left in the quarter.

Nick Garritano kicked a 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for UNLV (3-3, 1-2), which scored on Shannon MacLean’s 19-yard run in the second quarter.
