PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Streak Gets Crowd Into the Game

Ram Coach Chuck Knox, who had one of the biggest home-field advantages in football in Seattle’s noisy Kingdome, seems to be warming to the once-docile atmosphere of Anaheim Stadium.

The Rams, after Sunday’s 38-17 victory over the New York Giants in Anaheim, are 3-0 at home this season, and Sunday, the season-high crowd of 53,541 was exuberant from the start.

“I’m glad we were able to win at home here,” said Knox, who coached the Seahawks nine seasons. “We had a nice crowd, and they got into the game. It’s nice to be able to get out there and put on a pretty good performance for those people.

“You always have to, if you can, give the crowd something they can tie in to, (something) they can feel good about--a big play, whatever. It was a good ballgame.”

While the Rams spend the next 11 days enjoying their defeat of the Giants and resting through the NFC West bye weekend, their next opponent, the Atlanta Falcons, will be spending the same amount of time licking their wounds after their 56-17 embarrassment at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers.

Atlanta, a playoff team last year, is one of the season’s early disappointments with a 2-5 record, but the Falcons did beat the Rams twice last season by a score of 31-14 in each game. “Well, they’ll be riled up,” Knox said. “But, you know, they always are. (Falcon Coach) Jerry Glanville does a good job with them, and they come at you as a football team.”

The Rams took their usual day off Tuesday, and will also take today off because of the bye. They will practice Thursday and Friday, then take the weekend off before getting back into their regular schedule next week.
