COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Don James to Have Surgery
Washington Coach Don James will undergo surgery Monday to repair three broken cheekbones he suffered when he was hit on the sidelines in the Huskies’ victory at Oregon last Saturday.
“It probably won’t be a lot of fun, but it could have been a lot worse,” the coach said.
James, 59, was run into from the side by 6-foot-2, 231-pound Oregon linebacker David Massey on a run by Napoleon Kaufman in the first quarter. Massey’s helmet struck James in the jaw.
In addition to the cheekbone injuries, James’ wristwatch was broken.
“I’m not going to press charges,” James joked.
