HIT THE HEIGHTS: Here’s an unusual case of a hit single saving a TV series. “The Heights,” a Fox network youth-oriented entry that is a sort of “The Commitments, 90210” with the cast handling all the singing, has been near the bottom of the ratings--and facing possible cancellation. But “How Do You Talk to an Angel,” a song featured in August’s debut episode, is a smash--taking just three weeks to break into the pop Top 10. Fox executives are so thrilled by the record’s success that they have ordered nine more episodes of the TV series. Capitol Records, which released the “Heights” single and album, is thinking about signing James Walters, the lead singer on the hit, to a solo deal.
