After Boston College remembered its running game and another of its running backs, Tulane could forget about a homecoming victory.

Darnell Campbell and Chuckie Dukes combined to lead the 11th-ranked Eagles--rushing for touchdowns in the second half--to a come-from-behind 17-13 victory over Tulane.

Trailing 7-3, Boston College went to the ground in the third quarter with 23 carries for 124 yards, including 12 consecutive rushes and their first touchdown of the game--a five-yard run by Dukes.

Campbell, who didn’t get into the game until the second half, had 112 yards and a touchdown in 18 carries. Dukes had 142 yards and a touchdown in 29 carries.

In all, Boston College (6-0-1) had 283 yards in 58 carries and held the football for 36 minutes 45 seconds as it held off a Tulane team that lost for the fifth time in seven games.

“We were very fortunate to win,” Boston College Coach Tom Coughlin said. “This was a great lesson in humility for all of us.”

Shawn Meadows and wide receiver Will Ursin, who teamed for a first-half touchdown, connected on a 25-yarder in the fourth quarter that took the Green Wave to the one-yard line.

Joey Perry dived over the middle to score, but Meadows’ two-point pass attempt was incomplete.

“It’s frustrating,” Tulane Coach Buddy Teevens said. “We’re getting closer, but we don’t get points for being close.”

Boston College quarterback Glenn Foley completed six of 15 passes for 93 yards and was sacked once and intercepted once. He threw only two passes in the second half.

“We had to do what we’ve basically done from Day 1,” Coughlin said. “Play sound on both sides of the ball and put the ball on the ground and run it.”
