A public dressing down by Coach Mike Ditka is proving to be the best thing that could have happened to quarterback Jim Harbaugh.

For the second consecutive game since Ditka berated him after a loss to Minnesota on Oct. 4, Harbaugh performed like an all-pro.

Harbaugh matched a 28-year-old club record Sunday by completing 13 consecutive passes during the Bears’ 30-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers. He finished 16 of 23 passes for 194 yards and one touchdown.

“The receivers did a good job and the offensive line was super,” said Harbaugh, who tied the record set by Rudy Bukich over two games in 1964. “We’ve improved our passing game quite a bit.”

The streak began early in the second quarter and ended shortly before Kevin Butler kicked a 21-yard field goal with 36 seconds left in the third.

“When they put eight men against you in the line you want to make sure you can pass and Jim responded tremendously,” Ditka said.

Butler kicked three field goals and Darren Lewis had a 30-yard touchdown run to make it easy for the Bears (4-3).

Late in the fourth quarter, the Bears drove 74 yards in 11 plays to clinch the victory on Lewis’ run with 3:37 left.

The loss was the Packers’ third in a row and marked the first time the Bears had won two in a row this season.

Brett Favre of the Packers (2-5) completed 20 of 37 passes for 214 yards. But he saw his string of 91 passes without an interception end in the third quarter when Donnell Woolford intercepted for Chicago.

Sterling Sharpe caught nine passes for 144 yards and a touchdown for the Packers.

Butler’s 18-yard field goal gave the Bears a 3-0 lead, but Chris Jacke tied the score with a 51-yard field goal 1:51 into the second quarter.

The Bears took a 10-3 lead when Chris Gardocki faked a punt and passed 43 yards to Mark Green to the five yard-line before Brad Muster scored from the one.

“That was a key play, no question about it,” Ditka said of the fake punt. “It’s great if it works but if it doesn’t work, it’s back to high school.”

Late in the half, following a 24-yard punt by Paul McJulien that put the ball on the Bears’ 42, Harbaugh began a 68-yard drive with a 19-yard pass to Keith Jennings.

Harbaugh concluded the drive with a four-yard touchdown pass to Jennings with 1:54 left.

The Packers came back with a touchdown when Favre connected with Sharpe for 45 yards, then hooked up with Sharpe again for a 10-yard scoring play with 1:24 left.
