Religious Right and Politics
If Christ appeared on our 1992 streets, his followers would include our homeless, the drug addicted, the HIV infected, prostitutes, as well as any other man or woman believing in the rights and equality of all living things under God, assuming they accepted Christ as their messenger.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ahmanson and their fellow contributors to the religious right candidates, sadly and ironically, would not be among the followers of the Christ they so strongly profess to believe in. At the very least, they have accepted the messenger and missed the message. The candidates they wish to empower are not unlike the Romans who also wished to maintain a grip on society to protect their interests of that day.
Is it not possible that the Christian right is in fact anti-Christ, and that it is time for men and women who profess to believe in the teachings of Christ to face the truth that all people are equal in the eyes of God, all people.
