COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Fien Retains Confidence
Freshman quarterback Ryan Fien said his confidence wasn’t shattered after he failed to generate any offense in his first college start in last week’s 20-0 loss to Arizona State.
“I know that’s not how I can play out there,” he said. “Of course, I’m frustrated. But my confidence isn’t down, because I know I can play at this level.”
Fien completed four of seven passes for 18 yards in the first three quarters before sitting out the final quarter with a hip injury.
Quarterback Rob Walker, sidelined the last two games with a sprained left ankle, hopes to return Saturday when the Bruins play at California.
Nose guard Sale Isia, who missed last week’s game against Arizona State with a sprained ankle, might play against Cal. . . . Fullback Kaleaph Carter, who has a partially torn Achilles’ tendon, will play a limited role the rest of the season.
