COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Walker Hopes to Play Despite Injury

Share

Quarterback Rob Walker, who has sat out the last three games because of a sprained left ankle, hopes to return for Saturday’s game against Oregon State at the Rose Bowl. If Walker is able to play, he probably will start in place of John Barnes.

“The ankle’s not going to be 100% before the year is over, so I’m going to just play with it being 80%-85%,” Walker said.

Walker said it has been frustrating watching the Bruin offense struggle.

“I know how they feel because my high school team went 3-7 a couple of years,” Walker said.

Linebacker Jamir Miller, sidelined for three games because of a sprained left ankle, might return this week. However, freshman quarterback Ryan Fien, tailback Kevin Williams, nose guard Sale Isaia and offensive tackle Rick Fuller probably won’t play because of injuries.

Fewer than 9,000 tickets remain for the USC-UCLA game on Nov. 21 at the Rose Bowl, which seats 102,083 for UCLA games. Scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m., it might be moved to 4:30 p.m. if ESPN decides to televise it. However, it will remain at 12:30 if televised by ABC or if there is no live broadcast. Game time will be set no later than next Monday.

Cornerback Carlton Gray has been selected as a National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete. One of 11 players selected for the honor, Gray, who has a 3.4 grade-point average, will be honored at a dinner in New York on Dec. 8. . . . Junior wide receiver Bryan Adams, who hasn’t played this season because of a severe ankle sprain, might redshirt this season.
