Magic’s Re-Retirement: Was It Caused by Fear, Rumors or Mailman?

I was initially opposed to Magic’s return to the NBA, which I based on a general concern for the best interests of his health. After all, he had won so many awards and bringing home the Olympic gold medal was such a splendid ending to a brilliant career.

However, the fact that Magic worked so hard to return caused me to change my mind and realize just how much he must love and need basketball. I saw that playing basketball would perhaps reduce his chances of developing AIDS, by enabling him to maintain the positive attitude he had exhibited through the darkest moments of the past year.

I am therefore disgusted as well as saddened that the fear and ignorance of certain NBA players have forced Magic to retire again. Magic, the most unselfish player basketball has ever known, has been forced from this game he so dearly loved, a game to which he gave so much.
