Children playing with matches started a fire that caused damage estimated at $75,000 Monday morning to four units of a two-story apartment building in Pacoima, but caused no injuries, Los Angeles city fire officials said.
The fire displaced 22 residents, officials said, adding that 18 are residing with relatives or friends while one adult and three children moved to a Red Cross shelter.
Three dozen firefighters responded at 8 a.m. to 12700 Van Nuys Blvd. and extinguished the blaze in 19 minutes, city fire spokesman Bob Collis said.
The fire began in a lower unit, causing damage estimated at $60,000 to the building and $15,000 to contents of the four units, Collis said.
