DESCANSO : Prisoner Escapes From Honor Camp

A San Diego man escaped from the county’s Descanso honor camp through a hole under a fence, authorities said Thursday.

After an alarm was sounded at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, a prisoner count revealed inmate Jeffrey Allen Holdeman was missing, authorities said in a statement. Deputies with dogs and patrol cars searched the area, yet Holdeman remained at large Thursday night, according to a statement from Sgt. R.W. Gilmore.

Holdeman, 38, had been at the facility for nearly three weeks, and was in custody awaiting sentencing for auto theft and possession of stolen property. He had a bail of $7,500, the statement said.

When last seen, Holdeman had a full beard and was dressed in blue jail clothing. He is was described as white, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Holdeman’s address was listed in the 3100 block of Jemez Drive in Clairemont, the statement said.
