Share

Two East San Diego men were ordered to stand trial Friday on charges of participating in an attempted carjacking that resulted in the death of a third man.

Daniel K. Hilburn, 28, and Robert Lee Bible, 23, will be arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery at a Superior Court hearing Nov. 30.

The pair are charged with attacking a couple outside a Mission Valley Mexican restaurant, but the plan purportedly went awry when the male victim fatally stabbed David Ray Gooch, 25.

Attorneys for Hilburn admitted in court Friday that he accompanied Gooch to Mercy hospital for treatment for a stab wound in the neck that killed him after only a few minutes.

Bible, through his attorneys, “admitted his presence . . . at the El Torito at the time of the incident.”

Both men are being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
