LOS ALAMITOS : Residents Urged to Shop Locally

Share

Officials of a newly formed committee to encourage shopping within Los Alamitos are urging residents to spread the cheer locally for the coming holidays by shopping in neighborhood stores.

It could go a long way in keeping local businesses and the city economically healthy, they said. And there are cash prizes for the lucky shoppers.

Judy Klabouch, who heads the four-member Shop Los Alamitos Committee, said that cash prizes of as much as $500 await local shoppers whose “shopping cards” will be drawn at a special raffle on Dec. 21 at City Hall.

She said the cards are now available at participating businesses. Purchases are not necessary. People who visit at least 30 of the 68 participating businesses and have the cards checked off qualify for the drawing.

The second prize is worth $250 and the third $100.

The program is a joint project of the city and the Chamber of Commerce and is part of the economic revitalization effort started three months ago. The City Council issued a proclamation Monday urging residents to support the project.
