Ventura County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Thousand Oaks man on suspicion of felony drunk driving and misdemeanor hit and run after he allegedly collided with a parked truck and drove through a front yard, destroying a fence and a wall.

Authorities said Rigoberto Chinchilla, 28, was driving a 1973 Chevrolet van east on Los Feliz Drive at 4:40 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of the vehicle, drove over the sidewalk and collided with a 1984 Toyota pickup truck owned by James Collins of Thousand Oaks.

The force of the collision pushed the truck, which was parked in Collins’ driveway, through a retaining wall and a wrought-iron fence on his property in the 2400 block of Los Feliz.

“I was working outside when I heard a screech and then a bang,” Collins said. “I ran right into the house and called 911.”

Once the van came to a rest, Chinchilla and his passenger, Enrique Lemus Guillermo, 24, of Thousand Oaks, attempted to flee the scene but were detained by one of Collins’ neighbors, deputies said.

Guillermo was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken nose and facial lacerations and released.

Because of the injuries to Guillermo, Chinchilla was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving. He is being held at the Ventura County Jail.
