NEW PRICE AGE: After a great College World Series and becoming the No. 1 draft pick, ex-Cal State Fullerton third baseman Phil Nevin was a natural to win the Golden Spikes Award on Tuesday (C9) as outstanding U.S. amateur baseball player. But he’s not Cal State Fullerton’s first to win the coveted honor. . . . Titan first baseman Tim Wallach, now with the Montreal Expos, won it in 1979. Their college stats were similar. But Wallach signed for an $80,000 bonus--Nevin’s bonus was almost 10 times bigger.
