Saddleback, San Francisco City Headed for Orange County Bowl
Saddleback, the top-ranked team in the state, and second-ranked City College of San Francisco will play in the Simple Green Orange County Bowl Dec. 5, provided both win this weekend, Game Manager Doug Bennett said Wednesday.
San Francisco City (9-0), which is ranked fifth by the J.C. Grid-Wire, plays at Diablo Valley (5-3-1) at 7 p.m. Friday.
Saddleback (9-0), which is also the top-ranked team in the J.C. Grid-Wire national poll, plays host to Golden West (4-5) at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Even if Saddleback loses, the Gauchos would still be invited to the bowl because they won the Central Division of the Mission Conference. But San Francisco will not come here unless Saddleback is 10-0.
“We have a donor we can’t name who is working with us to pay to bring San Francisco down,” Bennett said. “I’m really excited about it. It will be the game in California.”
The bids will be extended Saturday after the Saddleback game.
