Elderly Driver Hurt When Her Car Hits a Tree
A 66-year-old Port Hueneme woman was in critical condition Monday after she lost control of her vehicle, veered onto a putting green and rammed her car into a tree, officials said.
Barbara J. Parker was being treated late Monday in the critical care unit at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, a nursing supervisor said.
Parker was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix west on Bay Boulevard in the Port Hueneme retirement community of Hueneme Bay when she sideswiped a camper parked on the street at 9:58 a.m., police said.
Parker’s vehicle continued west on Bay Boulevard past Lido Boulevard and jumped up a curb onto the putting green, officials said. The car collided with a steel pole, snapping it in half and continued moving until it smashed into a tree, police said.
