Share

Capital murder charges were filed Tuesday against a man who allegedly crashed his car into another vehicle during a high-speed police chase, leading to the death of an unborn child.

Dwight Earl Wilson, 32, faces one count each of murder, armed robbery and causing an injury while evading arrest in connection with Sunday’s accident at Imperial Highway and Broadway.

Attached to the murder count is the special circumstance allegation that Wilson murdered Guadalupe Soto’s unborn daughter in the course of a robbery, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Margaret Moe. If convicted, Wilson could face execution.

The chase began after the armed robbery of a Burger King restaurant in Willowbrook. Wilson and another suspect allegedly robbed the drive-through window cashier at gunpoint, but Wilson sped off when sheriff’s deputies arrived. The second suspect remains at large.

The high-speed chase that followed ended in a collision with Soto’s vehicle.
