Don’t Fly Away: In an unusual campaign, NBC has taken to its airwaves to encourage viewers who support quality television to watch Friday’s installment of “I’ll Fly Away,” which has been plagued with low ratings and reportedly is on the verge of cancellation. The family drama set amid the burgeoning civil rights movement of the late 1950s ranks 89th among the 110 series broadcast on the four commercial networks this season. “You can make a difference! . . . Don’t let ‘I’ll Fly Away’ go away!” the NBC promotional spots implore. “It’s up to you!” Or at least those of you who are hooked up to the A. C. Nielsen ratings computers. . . .
