PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Pro Bowl Season for McDaniel?
He was a No. 1 draft pick from Tennessee in 1988, but in his early seasons, cornerback Terry McDaniel was often lost, playing in the Raiders’ secondary with veterans Ronnie Lott, Eddie Anderson and Lionel Washington.
That has not been the case this season. After two interceptions against Denver last week, McDaniel is being pushed for the Pro Bowl by his teammates.
He leads the team with four interceptions for 180 yards and in pass deflections with 16.
This week, McDaniel will be reunited with San Diego wide receiver Anthony Miller, a former Tennessee teammate. Miller leads the AFC in receiving yards with 801 in 53 receptions.
“It should be a great matchup,” San Diego Coach Bobby Ross said. “McDaniel is a great cover guy who to me is a very physical football player.”
In their last four victories, the Raiders have given up only six points. After giving up only 171 points all season, the Raider defense is second in the AFC behind Pittsburgh in points allowed. . . . The Raiders have won six of the last eight meetings with San Diego, including a 9-7 decision at San Diego last year.
