War Games, Quakes

Share

Has it occurred to anyone, particularly the U.S. military, that Camp Pendleton may not be the best place to be practicing with noisy war (excuse me, “peacekeeping”) explosives? Just 60 miles northeast lies the town of Landers, which we all recognize as an earthquake-stressed area.

Yet, here I sit on San Diego’s North County coast, feeling the loud shaking of my house from another Pendleton blast, as I read “Landers Quake Hikes Chances of the Big One” (Nov. 19). Since these tests feel like earthquakes, I wonder what they are doing to the earth in this already sensitive area. I hope I’m not the only one wondering.
