PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Shell: All Hope Not Lost of Making the Playoffs
With a 5-7 record and in need of a calculator to figure their ever-shrinking chances of making it into postseason play, the Raiders are approaching the time to forget about the present and plan for the future.
But they aren’t there yet, according to Coach Art Shell.
Asked if he was thinking about giving more game time to his younger players, Shell said: “No, at this time I’m not. Maybe down the road we have to take a look at that.”
The road looks like a dead end for the Raiders.
If the Raiders lose to the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at the Coliseum, they will officially be out of the race for the division title.
But a loss would not mathematically eliminate them from a wild-card spot.
And as long as there’s a chance, the Raiders aren’t about to look beyond.
“There’s no letdown, there’s no quitting,” Shell said. “We’ve just got to keep fighting.”
