McCabe led the Diamond Bar girls’ basketball team to four playoff berths in four seasons but found the adjustment to boys’ basketball difficult last season at Fullerton, where he didn’t have a returning starter. The Indians should be the most improved team in the league with good balance, depth and senior leadership mixed with a good sophomore class. McCabe is expecting big things from Murray, who was a first-team all-league selection as a junior. “Chad had a great summer, and if our guard play continues to improve, then Chad should have a great year, and Fullerton will be a good team,” McCabe said. The question mark is at point guard, where sophomore Chris Young replaces Jason Viramontes. Mankiewicz is a player to watch in the future. McCabe, on the league race: “Sonora and Fullerton are the top two teams, but Troy, La Habra and Sunny Hills will challenge, and Buena Park could surprise everyone. The teams are very closely matched. I think a 7-3 record will be good enough to win the league.”
