From Wire Reports

Chris Bosio apparently is going to the Seattle Mariners and Alan Trammell is going back to Detroit. Barry Bonds is wondering where he will go next.

Bosio and the Mariners were about done on a four-year contract with an option for 1997, a package said to be worth slightly more that Jose Guzman’s $14.35-million deal with the Chicago Cubs.

Trammell agreed to go back to Detroit for $1.5 million with the chance to earn performance bonuses. The Tigers get a $2.4 million option for 1993, which would become guaranteed if he plays regularly next season.

In smaller deals, catcher Steve Lake left Philadelphia to sign with the Chicago Cubs for $275,000, and pitcher Roger Mason signed with the New York Mets for $300,000. Mason was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates last month.

But Bonds, the former Pirate with the most value, was still looking for a new team. The New York Yankees withdrew their five-year offer to the two-time National League MVP, reported in Newsday to be worth $36.5 million, because Bonds’ agent was asking for a six-year contract for about $42 million.

“We got hung up on the sixth year,” Gene Michael, Yankee general manager, said from Tampa, Fla. “We don’t have any plans right now. We’ve tried to get it done, and we can’t do it. We made a hell of an offer. Now we’re going to concentrate on going for pitching.”

The Yankees also made a five-year offer to pitcher Greg Maddux, a deal said to be worth more then $30 million.

“We’re talking with everybody and trying to get that finalized in the next few days,” said Maddux’s agent, Scott Boras. “We’ve gotten some strong indications about what clubs are dramatically interested.”

Bosio, 16-6 with Milwaukee last season, is expected to agree with the Mariners today. He had a 3.62 earned-run average last season and set a Brewers’ record with 10 consecutive victories.

Trammell, 34, has been hampered by injuries and has been a Tiger for 16 seasons. He did not return to the lineup last season after fracturing his ankle May 15.
