PALMDALE : Daily Air Service to LAX Planned

Share

A New Mexico-based airline will fly between Palmdale Regional Airport and Los Angeles International Airport, probably beginning service in February, airline executives said.

United Airlines is underwriting the expansion of services by an affiliate, Mesa Airlines, based in Farmington, N.M., said Mesa’s planning director, Gus Carbonell.

There will be six daily flights on the 19-seat turboprop planes on weekdays and four daily on weekends, Carbonell said.

Service will be free for passengers connecting to or from United Airlines flights, he said.

The fare for other passengers has not yet been determined.

SkyWest Airlines, a Delta Airlines affiliate, is the only airline now operating out of Palmdale Airport, owned by the city of Los Angeles.

America West dropped its Palmdale service in August, 1991, because it was losing money, Palmdale Airport officials said.
