BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Barker Sparks Antelope Valley

Antelope Valley High’s Derrick Barker hit a 17-foot jump shot with five seconds left to cap a furious comeback in a 63-60 win over Agoura on Friday night in a championship semifinal of the Saugus basketball tournament.

The Antelopes, who trailed by 14 with 5 minutes 51 seconds left, embarked on an 11-0 run over the final 1:39 to advance to the final.

The Chargers (3-1) led, 51-42, entering the fourth quarter but were outscored thereafter, 21-9. Barker and teammate Zach Curtis each finished with 11 points, and John Sanders had a game-high 22 for Antelope Valley (3-0).

In other boys’ basketball games:

Chatsworth 70, Glendale 44--Chancellor center Brady Mertes scored 17 points and had 14 rebounds in a consolation game of the Saugus tournament. Guard Philbert Hernandez had 14 points and seven assists.

Thousand Oaks 76, Camarillo 49--Thousand Oaks advanced to the championship game of the Simi Valley tournament.

The Lancers (3-0) were led by twins Nick and Paul Foster, who scored 24 and 15 points.

North Hollywood 67, Simi Valley 57--Damon Ollie scored 20 points to lead the Huskies (4-0) in a semifinal game of the Simi Valley tournament. North Hollywood will play Thousand Oaks tonight in the championship game.

Crescenta Valley 78, Hoover 53--Adam Jacobsen scored 31 points as the Falcons won the championship game of the Burbank-Hoover tournament. Chad Reese scored 27 points for Hoover.

COLLEGE MEN

Cerritos 64, Glendale 63--The Falcons (9-0) withstood a Vaquero comeback to win a Golden West tournament second-round game.

Glendale’s Mike Macchia made a free throw with less than a minute to play to cut Cerritos’ lead to one, but Vaquero forward Setro Terzian could not hit a running eight-foot shot at the buzzer.
