Arcadia : Brochure on Peafowl OKd

Share

The City Council approved the distribution of a brochure on peafowl to areas of the city where residents have complained that the colorful but noisy birds are a nuisance.

Many residents north of the 210 Freeway in the “Oaks” region say the birds eat their flowers, while residents to the south have petitioned that the birds be protected.

On Sept. 22, the City Council rejected trapping the peafowl and opted for an education effort.

The black and white brochure, “Our Neighbors The Peacocks,” will be distributed with water bills to residents north of the 210 Freeway. It will contain a history of peafowl and a list of flowers they dislike.

A recommendation by Mayor George Fasching for a color brochure on the birds was rejected by other council members as too costly and unnecessary.
