Ex-City Clerk Job at Issue

Share

You stated that ousted Oxnard City Clerk Mabi Plisky will take a “cut in pay” from her former $65,000 a year job in taking her new job with the city, of $44,034 (“Oxnard Looks Into Hiring of Former City Clerk,” Nov. 26).

This is not true. Actually, she took a pay cut from $65,000 a year when she was defeated at the polls. The voters of the city of Oxnard voted to reduce her salary to zero.

Now, thanks to her husband, Councilman Michael Plisky, and his connections with Oxnard City Manager Vernon Hazen, Mabi Plisky has been given a new job--in effect, a $44,000 raise.

The real story here is not, however, the salary. The story here is about a defeated politician being given a political job, with no open application process. And her new job is not just any job--it is the only job in the city that provides its occupant with a weekly television show, at taxpayer expense. What better way to maintain your political image?

This is how Hazen, Plisky and Plisky want to spend our tax dollars. Not on police officers, not on fixing streets, but on a back-room revolving door for the wives of city councilmen.
