LOS ANGELES : Sanders ‘Rethinking’ Plan to Enter Mayoral Race

Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commissioner Stan Sanders said Wednesday he is “rethinking” his expected bid for mayor of Los Angeles due to uncertain fund-raising prospects.

“If the money part comes through by the end of the year, we’re going to go,” Sanders said. “But if it doesn’t, we don’t. I guess there’s about a 50-50 chance we’ll do it, but I’ll probably wait until the end of the year to decide.”

The mid-Wilshire corporate lawyer said that he has raised $100,000 so far for a mayoral run but that “we definitely need $200,000 total by the end of December.” Sanders, who was expected to formally announce his candidacy for mayor this week, would be the second prominent African-American in the race. The other is City Councilman Nate Holden.
