Chances of More Storm Drizzle Fizzle

The promise of quenching rain for a thirsty county has evaporated. A storm tonight will bring less than a quarter inch of rain, the National Weather Service said.

“As much rain as we had Monday, there was hope for more,” said Wilbur Shigehara, senior meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

“We have a high pressure system that keeps snapping back, making the storms fall apart to the north of us. I don’t know when the next rain will come. It looks dry through next week.”

However slight, tonight’s storm may bring thunder to San Diego and a dusting of snow to local mountaintops, Shigehara said.

Storm clouds will move in this afternoon along with a 20% chance of rain, Shigehara said. Gloomy skies will linger Saturday, but by Sunday, conditions will be cold, dry and sunny.

Northwesterly winds up to 20 m.p.h. will blow through Sunday around the county. In the mountains, winds will gust up to 35 m.p.h.

Beach highs today will range from 58-63 and from 60-63 on the weekend. The ocean will be 62 degrees and surf will be at 2-4 feet.

The high tides of the past week peak at 9:21 a.m. today at 7.1 feet. The high tide at 10:04 a.m. Saturday will be 6.8 feet and the high tide at 10:51 a.m. Sunday will be 6.3 feet.

Coastal highs today will range from 62-67 and from 60-65 Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will be cold, ranging from 47-52 tonight and from 35-45 Saturday night. Frost may form early Sunday morning along the coastal sections in North County.

Inland highs will imitate coastal temperatures this weekend, with only a slight possibility of rising into the low 70s, Shigehara said.
