Mildred Lynch, a retired public and parochial schoolteacher, was elected president of the Conejo Valley Unified School District board Thursday.

Lynch, who has been on the board since 1985, replaces William H. Henry Jr. as president.

After teaching public school in Lawndale and nearby Lennox for 20 years, Lynch taught at La Reina High School in Thousand Oaks, retiring in 1987.

She also taught graduate school at Loyola Marymount University in Westchester and supervised student teachers at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.

Lynch said she shares the responsibility of her largely ceremonial position as president with the other board members.

“The board has two big things in the coming year--choosing the new superintendent and dealing with a new teacher contract,” she said. “It’s not the work of one person, but the whole board.”

Supt. William R. Seaver has announced that he will retire in June after 36 years of teaching and school administration.

He has served as superintendent since 1987.

In addition to Lynch, Richard Newman was elected vice president and Dolores Didio was elected clerk of the school board.
