Paul Conrad, The Times’ editorial cartoonist, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, police said Friday.

Conrad, 68, was arrested Thursday night in Palos Verdes Estates after police said they saw his car traveling 55 m.p.h. in a 35-m.p.h. zone and weaving in the lane. After two sobriety tests, Conrad’s blood-alcohol level was determined to be 0.15 and 0.14, nearly double the legal limit of 0.08, police said.

Shelby Coffey, Times editor, said: “It would be inappropriate for us to comment on the personal affairs of a staffer. Paul Conrad has been a distinguished staffer for many years, and we want to be supportive of him.”
