Advisory Panels Approved
Two citizens advisory committees will be formed to keep the city’s new mayor abreast of general and economic concerns.
In a 5-0 vote, the City Council last week agreed to establish the Mayor’s Advisory Committee and the Mayor’s Economic Development Advisory Cabinet.
Mayor William Choctaw, who took over the council’s top post last month, urged passage, saying the new committees, which will be staffed by 20 volunteers, will allow more residents to get involved in city government.
Councilmen Drexel Smith and Jack Isett each qualified their support, saying city staff involvement with the committees should be kept at a minimum because of budget restrictions.
