Huntington Beach is everybody’s pick to win the Sunset League title, but Miller is quick to note that his team was in a similar position last year and finished third behind co-champions Marina and Edison. The Oilers did have a nice run in the playoffs, however, defeating West Covina and Indio to reach the quarterfinals in Division I-A, where it lost to J.W. North of Riverside, 77-52. “The team chemistry finally came together in the playoffs,” Miller said. Guards Walden and Chang and forward Ambrose are starting their third seasons on the varsity. Chang, who appeared uncomfortable with his role as point guard last year, has handled the position smoothly thus far this year. Ambrose and Gonzalez will often form a double low post that will be difficult for opposing teams to handle. The Oilers’ pressure, half-court trap should also create plenty of turnovers and high-percentage shots. “I feel very confident with this team,” Miller said. “Our goal is to make it to the final four of our division.”
