Former President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy, will officiate at the second annual tree lighting at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley today, library officials said.

The public is invited to attend the 11:30 a.m. lighting of the 12-foot Christmas tree in the library’s main lobby.

Local chorale and instrumental groups will be on hand to perform, and the Reagans will inspect 10 smaller trees decorated by Simi Valley elementary schoolchildren that are on display in the library courtyard, said Stefanie Salata, library spokeswoman.

“The tree lighting was something the President and Mrs. Reagan did at the White House, and this is a continuation of that,” Salata said. “It kind of signals the start of our holiday season.”

The musical program features performances by the Aspen School Chorus, the Royal High School Madrigals and the Balboa Bachelors Christmas Brass.

The lighting and program are expected to last about 20 minutes, Salata said.
