Gang Link Suspected in Carson Slaying

A 32-year-old Carson man was shot to death Tuesday night by suspected gang members as he sat in his car, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Alvin Meggs died shortly after his assailants shot him on East Cassidy Street in Carson, pulled him from his car and drove off in the vehicle, said Deputy Gabe Ramirez, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Meggs had dropped off a friend in the 300 block of East Cassidy Street and was waiting for him to return when the attack occurred shortly after 10 p.m., Ramirez said.
Although no one witnessed the shooting, investigators said they believe it was gang-related on the basis of interviews with Meggs’ friend. One week earlier, Meggs’ gang and a rival group were involved in a nonfatal shooting, Ramirez said.
The car the assailants drove away in was described as a brown, two-door Chevrolet Caprice with license plate number 231-KEH.
Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (213) 974-4341.
