Three city employees have been proclaimed employees of the year by the City Council.

Ron Stancyk, a firefighter and paramedic; Ken Stewart, a maintenance worker, and Jackie Lewis, a budget manager, were awarded commemorative plaques and thanked for their service Tuesday night.

“I’m being recognized for something I enjoy doing,” Stancyk said, smiling.

Retiring Police Chief Phil Goehring also received a commendation for his 31 years of service.

“Frankly, I can’t remember a time when we’ve had an issue before you that we didn’t get a 5-0 vote,” Goehring told the council in thanks.

Goehring was named police chief in 1987. He passed the State Bar in 1976 and plans to open a law office after retiring. The city is seeking a new chief and is considering candidates both from within the department and outside, city officials have said.

The three employees of the year were nominated by their peers. They were each given $350 and will have their names added to a plaque in City Hall.

Lewis, 48, began working for the city as a budget accountant in 1983. She was promoted to budget manager the next year.

Stancyk, 35, was born and raised in Pomona. He said he always wanted to be a firefighter.

Stewart, 33, began working for the city in 1981. He is responsible for maintenance and repairs on all city water pumps, control valves and reservoirs.
