SHERMAN OAKS : Massage Parlor Ordered to Close

A Sherman Oaks massage parlor operator was ordered on Wednesday to shut down her business because it is situated too close to a residential neighborhood, the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said.
Los Angeles Municipal Judge Andrew Kauffman ordered Joan P. Santagata of Agoura to close the Flamingo Massage & Sauna at 4622 Van Nuys Blvd. by March 16, Deputy City Atty. Henry Burr said.
Santagata also was fined $2,025 and placed on two years summary probation after she pleaded no contest to violating a city zoning ordinance that regulates the location of adult businesses, Burr said.
Santagata was supposed to close her business in June, 1990, in accordance with a 1988 amendment to a city zoning code section that makes it a crime to operate an adult business within 500 feet of a residential area, school, church or park or within 1,000 feet of another adult business.
Earlier, city zoning administrators twice denied Santagata’s requests for an extension to continue operating her business, Burr said.
