NOT THE REAL THING: It’s the time of year when children and adults alike are calling in sick. But don’t believe it when someone says it’s flu season. Some viruses may be causing flu-like symptoms but there is no outbreak of influenza itself, says county health official Dr. Hildy Meyers. . . . In fact, not a single flu case has been reported to the county. There is an upswing of gastroenteritis, which produces diarrhea and stomach discomfort. It’s caused by a virus sometimes mistaken by parents as being flu.
