With three players at 6 feet 2 or taller, Troy is a team with a lot of height. The Warriors, who tied for second in league, graduated only two seniors, but one of them was leading-scorer Dede Logemann, an all-Freeway League player now at Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz. But Sand, who returns for his second season at Troy, says this year’s team is improved even without Logemann. Sand has Richardson (6-3), Gadd (6-3) and Katsis (6-2). “We have a unique situation with three players so big,” Sand said. “You want to be able to play them at the same time.” Richardson, an all-league player since her freshman season, is expected to start at forward but will also play center. She, along with Gadd, averaged nine points and eight rebounds. Gadd is expected to be the Warriors starting center. Katsis, a reserve forward, averaged 6.3 rebounds. Shah, a 5-1 sophomore, started last season at point guard, averaging seven points, and had 101 assists. La Habra Coach John Koehler, whose Highlanders won the league, said he favors Troy this season because of the team’s height advantage.
